The “boring” side of business that makes money

Hey Reader,

Nobody talks about this part.

The hardest part of starting a business isn’t the idea.
It’s not the logo.
It’s not even getting your first client.

It’s the moment you realize…

“Oh. There’s a whole back office side to this.”

LLCs.
Bank accounts.
Payment processors.
Bookkeeping.

And suddenly your cute idea feels overwhelming.

Take a breath. I’ve got you.

Here’s how to prepare the back office the right way:

1️⃣ Get Clear on Your Structure

Before you sell anything, decide what you’re actually building.

If you’re a coach, author, speaker, mentor, or consultant — most operate under an LLC for their personal brand services.

Nonprofits serve a different purpose and structure entirely.

Clarity first. Paperwork second.

If you’re still unsure how to position what you’re building, download the Well Valley Starter Kit. It walks you through the foundational questions so you don’t build something confusing.

2️⃣ Set Up a Business Bank Account + Payment Processor

If you plan to make money, you need somewhere for it to go.

Please don’t run business income through your personal account.

That’s stress waiting to happen.

Most online businesses use Stripe as their payment processor. If you’re using Kit to sell digital products or send emails, Stripe connects to it and deposits directly into your business bank account.

Simple. Clean. Professional.

I personally use Found banking because it’s affordable and built for small business owners. It helps track expenses and simplifies tax time.

When your money has a home, your business starts to feel real.

3️⃣ Create a Bookkeeping Rhythm (Hello Financial Fridays 👏)

When I first started, I didn’t have extra income to justify expensive bookkeeping software.

So I built my own tracking system.

Every Friday, I spend 20–30 minutes reviewing:
• Money in
• Money out
• Upcoming expenses
• Profit

That small habit builds massive clarity.

Stewardship creates confidence.

I loved that tool so much I packaged it for my students inside The Biz Collective, so they don’t have to figure it out alone.

Here’s the truth:

Business isn’t hard because it’s complicated.
It’s hard because no one teaches the “boring” parts.

But those boring parts?

That’s where authority is built.

Build the back office first.
Then grow from strength.

With purpose,
